Healthy Desk Tip: Display Personal Items

by | Apr 10, 2019 | Uncategorized

A great way to reduce stress and dissatisfaction in the workplace is to decorate your desk. Having personal items around your desk helps you feel ownership, and therefore makes you more comfortable and at ease. However, keep in mind that if you go over-board with your personal items, your desk is going to feel cluttered, and bring even more stress to your day. So, make sure to find that perfect balance!

Consider putting these items on your desk:

1. Family Photos

Find a nice family photo that was taken somewhere you felt most relaxed. Perhaps from a family vacation or downtime at the cottage. Most people feel happier when they are reminded of someone they love. Ps… this goes for pet photos too!

2. Certificates/Degrees/Diplomas

After so many countless hours spent studying, doing assignments, and working on presentations, why not display that expensive masterpiece of a paper as if it were a timeless painting! Even if you are amongst the 73% of the population that is working in a field that has nothing to do with your major… get it up there! Take ownership and be proud of yourself.

3. Indoor Plants

Did you know having a plant or two at your desk can help reduce stress, improve air quality, and even boost happiness! As discussed in a previous blog post “Best Office Colour to Boost Productivity”  the color green is a huge mood booster!

To make your desk plant even more personalized, put it in a vase from home or have your kids decorate one for you!
