The big question is: how much should I be drinking?
Well, searching around the internet for the answers, you’ll see many websites that will provide some formula to calculate that answer. However, no single formula will be the answer for everyone as we are all so different!
The Mayo Clinic suggests that between drinking water, other water-based beverages, and food, the recommended intake of fluid is as follows:
-3.7 Litres (15.5 cups) for Men
-2.7 Litres (11.5 cups) for Women
Now, that sounds like a lot! But remember that about 20% of that daily intake usually comes from food.
It is also important to remember that there are other factors that influencer your water requirements such as sweating during exercise or in hot/humid weather; your current state of health (if you are sick– you need more) and of course if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Fortunately, technology has come in
1. Set an alarm on your phone or computer
2. Purchase a water bottle that measures your intake throughout the day
3. Track your intake using an app on your phone
4. Put your water bottle somewhere on your desk where you can see it
There are even water bottles out there now that will make a noise, or light up when you haven’t taken a drink from it in a while!
Are you keeping yourself hydrated throughout the day? If not, give yourself a challenge! Bump up your water intake by a few extra glasses each day and reap the benefits of being hydrated!
